There hasn’t been a lot of good news in New York state recently. Beleaguered Gov. David Paterson is promising broad cuts in spending to close a $3 billion budget gap for this fiscal year. And he’ll have to make far deeper cuts next year.
There hasn’t been a lot of good news in New York state recently. Beleaguered Gov. David Paterson is promising broad cuts in spending to close a $3 billion budget gap for this fiscal year. And he’ll have to make far deeper cuts next year.
The state Legislature, meanwhile, is in even lower repute than usual following the drawn-out coup attempt in the state Senate over the summer. Despite Paterson’s pleas, its members are busily trying to avoid initiating any of the painful cuts that are on the way.
