There are about 500 openings for Valley residents to receive free training and certification to help them find jobs in the renewable-energy industry, which economic experts believe is expanding in Arizona.
Three agencies in central Arizona received about half of a $6 million federal grant the state was awarded to run the State Energy Sector Partnership program.
The agencies are using the money to train and certify at least 900 people in the region for green jobs. Only about 400 spots have been filled so far.
The goal of the program is twofold: to provide job opportunities for Arizonans and to help expand the state’s energy industry.
Maricopa Workforce Connections also is looking for green employers to participate in the program.
