Fayetteville will be a site for a green collar job training center, the mayor announced Tuesday.
Fayetteville will be a site for a green collar job training center, the mayor announced Tuesday.
“This is a huge thing for us, to be able to train workers for these green jobs,” Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan said.
Two training centers will be located in the state, as part of a U.S. Department of Energy grant. One will be administered by NorthWest Arkansas Community College. The other will be run by Pulaski Technical College in Little Rock.Read Full Article

Cree has also begun manufacturing and assembling LED lighting products with Flextronics in Mecklenburg County, N.C. Initial products made in this facility are the ENERGY STAR(R)-qualified LR6 recessed LED downlight and award-winning LR24 LED troffer replacement.

Cree Inc. plans to hire more than 500 workers in Durham over the next three years, the maker of light-emitting diodes and LED lighting products announced Thursday afternoon.
The company currently employs about 1,500 in the Triangle. Cree (Nasdaq: CREE) cited the growing market for energy-efficient LED lighting as the reason for the new jobs. Duke Energy today announced it will purchase “green energy” credits from two North Carolina companies that will use solar power to produce hot water and to heat and cool buildings.
Duke Energy today announced it will purchase “green energy” credits from two North Carolina companies that will use solar power to produce hot water and to heat and cool buildings.
While Duke Energy’s agreements with FLS Energy and Vanir Energy will not produce electricity, the two firms use solar energy, making them eligible for the credits. Such credits, officially called renewable energy certificates, are generated from renewable energy resources and can be used by North Carolina electric utilities to meet requirements under the state Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard (REPS).
“These agreements will help us meet our renewable energy goals,” said Owen Smith, Duke Energy’s managing director of renewable energy and carbon strategy.Read Full Article

Officials hope the money will help jumpstart renovations and development of affordable housing.

Amory Lovins, co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Institute, makes a return trip to Charlotte next month to be the keynote speaker for a two-day forum on Growing North Carolina’s Green Economy.
The forum will be held Oct. 8-9 at the Charlotte Convention Center. Lovins will speak at the forum’s opening the first evening.
Lovins is recognized as one of the nation’s leading experts on renewable energy and energy efficiency.
