Fermentation Lab Assistant

We are currently looking for a part-time, Fermentation Lab Assistant to work on the weekends. The job consists of manual duties normally carried out by our permanent fermentation staff. Thus, the bulk of the work is to take and process samples from ongoing fermentations. Furthermore, each weekend, one set of tanks will have to be shut down and the fermentation contents will need to be harvested and the equipment will need to be cleaned. The work involves operating an autoclave with the appropriate safety precautions. Observations made over the course of the fermentations should be recorded, and the fermentations need to be checked for compliance with the conditions that are specified in the experiment plan. Prior to each weekend watch, preferably on Fridays, there will be a 1-2 hour briefing in which the details of the work over the weekend are given. Members of our permanent staff will be on call for assistance if needed.
Requirements

The successful candidate should have experience with lab work and with practical aspects of biological work. Preferably, but this is not a must, a scientific background in engineering, biology or chemistry. This position requires exceptional reliability, responsibility and flexibility as well as a strong attention to detail.
